Exclusive interview with Jay Anthony on The Hype 87.3

Tune in with TampaMystic as she interviews Jay Anthony

Hello! My name is Jay Anthony. A R&B-Pop/ Gospel singer with a deep baritone voice. I am known for my powerful, soulful vocals, vocal improvisation skills, and use of gospel singing techniques in R&B Pop music. Nicknamed “Soul Balladeer”. I began singing at New Beginning’s Holiness Church in Greenwood, Delaware, as a child I started recording in the studio while in middle school. Singing in the recording studio is a separate skill from singing to an audience. I made my first solo performance debut at New Beginning church singing “Jesus Loves me” at age 12. When I became a teenager, I told my dad and mom that I wanted to pursue a career in music. I always told myself whatever career I chose I want to do and learn what I need to know to become the best at what I do. Throughout my teenage years, i would be taught how to sing by a private vocal coach, music school teachers, my Uncle and Aunt. Along with my Uncle, Aunt, cousins Deejay Real and Sherlene, I was influenced by other singers such as Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Miki Howard, Jacci McGhee, Kem, John P Kee, Frank Sinatra, Usher, Sam Cooke, Tony Bennett, John Legend, Mike Hines, Peabo Bryson, and Patti Labelle. I am excited  to release my first EP as an independent artist, which allowed me to write and produce my own material. I’m really excited to share my music with the world.
I became a Fashion Model after high school. I appeared in a commercial. I worked with Will Smith in the movie “After Earth”. The offers to be extra for movies, but were turned down because I wanted to pursue music.
